I made a rock creature with my kiddos
A few weeks ago I sat my kids down for art time and we made these really cool and cute rock creatures. Golems, IDK. Are you looking for a cute project for your kiddos? Your wee people? Ok, buckle up. They turned out really great. All you really need is aluminum foil. Medium or firm Sculpey and some cheap acrylic paints. If you wanna get fancy, get some fake moss from a hobby store or even better, real moss from outside.
Step one: Make an armature out of the foil. Thats a fancy way of saying crumple it up so it looks like a rough rock shape.
Step two: Cover the armature in Sculpey clay. I like the firm stuff because I have giant sausage fingers and its easier for me not to ruin the rest of the sculpture while I’m mashing around on the details.
Step three: Add a face with big eyes and a smile. Then and add details like arms or feet and some pebbles here and there. All the details are very simple. you don’t leet to be a great sculptor. It’s all very simple rock shapes. You can even use real rocks to press into the Sculpey to get realistic textures.
Step four: Bake it.
Step five: Paint it. Start by painting the entire thing black. Then paint it again with gray, not getting into all the cracks and deeper part. Leave the deeper parts black. The use a light gray and dry brush all the edges to get that real rock appearance. Dry brushing is just what it sounds like. lightly dunk your brush in paint, then wipe a lot of it off. then very lightly brush it over the edges of your piece.
